How to Choose: L-1A vs EB-1C
L-1A and EB-1C are designed to work together as a sequential pathway for multinational company executives and managers. L-1A is the nonimmigrant visa for intracompany transferees in managerial or executive capacity — it provides US work authorization for employees transferring within a multinational company. EB-1C is the immigrant visa (green card) for the same population: multinational executives or managers who have worked in that capacity for at least 1 year abroad. Many multinational companies use L-1A as the first step, then sponsor the EB-1C green card after the employee establishes the US position. Key advantage: EB-1C does not require PERM labor certification — the sponsoring company just needs to show the position is executive/managerial and the employee meets the criteria. This makes EB-1C one of the fastest employer-sponsored green card routes, particularly for Indian nationals who would wait decades in EB-2 but can potentially qualify for EB-1C with shorter priority date queues (though EB-1 for India still has a backlog).
