How to Choose: EB-2 vs EB-3
EB-2 and EB-3 are both employer-sponsored green card categories, but EB-2 requires an advanced degree (Master's or equivalent) or exceptional ability, while EB-3 covers skilled workers with a Bachelor's, unskilled workers, and Schedule A workers (nurses, physical therapists). EB-2 is generally considered the stronger preference category with a better priority date than EB-3 for most nationalities. However, EB-3 has an important advantage in certain situations: some applicants who cannot show an "advanced degree" may qualify for EB-3 with a Bachelor's; healthcare professionals benefit from EB-3 Schedule A designation; and in some historical periods, EB-3 dates have actually advanced faster than EB-2 due to demand patterns. For Indian nationals, both EB-2 and EB-3 have multi-decade backlogs. For other nationalities, EB-2 is typically preferred if you qualify — it processes in a similar timeline to EB-3 but carries slightly stronger classification.
